Slane Irish Whiskey   no comments

Posted at 12:19 pm in Product

October’s spirit of the month at Regent Liquor is Slane Irish Whiskey.  This is what the good folks at Slane have to say about their whiskey:   ”Smooth, complex and robust.  Slane Irish Whiskey marries toasted grain and malt whiskeys with the distinctive flavours of each cask.  Smooth with notes of oak and spice, each sip represents a journey through the wild countryside and the chance to uncover the subtle layers of the whiskey’s complex character.  Slane Irish Whiskey takes many of its complex and smooth qualities from our signature Triple Casked process. Whiskey is aged in three varieties of casks: Virgin and Seasoned casks raised by hand at the venerated Brown-Forman Cooperages – and Oloroso sherry casks by way of Jerez in Spain. Once the liquid has been aged to perfection, it is masterfully blended to create an exceptional Irish whiskey”.

3 Sheeps Brewing Company’s Cashmere Hammer   no comments

Posted at 11:47 am in Product

Our beer of the month for October is Cashmere Hammer Nitro Rye Stout from 3 Sheeps Brewing Company, Sheboygan, Wis.  Here is what 3 Sheeps has to say about it:  “Cashmere Hammer drinks like the best darn milkshake you’ve ever had. It’s rich, creamy, packed with chocolatey goodness and an earthy spice that can only come from rye malt. And, as if that isn’t rare enough, this beer is nitrogenated, something shockingly few breweries in the country can do in a bottle. We spent 18 months in research and development building our double-secret bottling line to get that smooth, velvety mouthfeel that only nitrogen can impart”.  6.5% ABV.   Beer Advocate give it a “very good” score of 3.97/5 and Rate Beer gives it an overall score of 93.  Want to know more about nitro beer?  Here is a link to a great article in the State Journal - https://madison.com/wsj/entertainment/dining/beer/beer-baron-embrace-the-tiny-bubble-with-sheeps-nitro-cashmere/article_31a0ca8c-e77a-59d4-9eed-faf01d2a8281.html.  Available year round in 12 ounce bottles.

Metallica’s Blackened Whiskey   no comments

Regent Liquor now has Metallica’s Blackened Whiskey.  “Metallica have jumped on the spirits train, and they have officially unveiled Blackened, “a blend of bourbons, ryes, and whiskeys from all across North America,” curated by distiller Dave Pickerell.  The whiskey is, of course, named for the opening track from the band’s 1988 opus …And Justice for All, which turns 30 this year, and sleekly bears a sound wave from the tune on its label.   A joint statement from the band about the new liquor states, “The ultimate goal is to make a whiskey that fits into the Metallica experience and sets itself apart from all the others. We want to show the world, and in this case especially the whiskey connoisseurs, how seriously we take this endeavor.”  About a year and a half ago, they launched their own Sweet Amber Distilling Co.   They joined with Pickerell, a onetime professor of chemistry and master distiller for WhistlePig who previously worked at Maker’s Mark and helped them “Metallicize” the drink.   Where some other distillers use sound waves to speed up whiskey’s aging process or, as Pickerell says, “to make the barrels feel happy,” Sweet Amber has developed a patent-pending sonic enhancement process they call “Black Noise” that uses low frequencies to enhance the flavor by vibrating the casks with, of course, Metallica’s music.  Pickerell is hesitant to explain too much of the process, since it’s patent pending, but reveals that the black brandy casks contain a lot of wood chemicals. “Right near the surface is the wood caramel, so when you burn the barrel, you make char and right behind the char there’s what people call the red layer,” he says. “That’s where the wood sugars get hot enough to caramelize but not hot enough to burn. There’s a lot of caramel right underneath the char, so the thing I’m going for is pulling some extra wood caramel out.”

It’s a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.Beer Advocate score of 4.46/5.  ABV 10.0%  The alcohol is very apparent, warming as hell!  Serve in trappist glass.  Also known as a chalice, this beautiful footed glass vessel is bowl-shaped often with a straight or slightly tapered edge above the bowl. Master Distiller Cirilo Oropeza spent decades learning both the science of distillation and the art of tequila making. His passion for it, matched with his strict attention to detail, allowed Cirilo to dedicate himself to the dream of creating a tequila of great quality that everyone could enjoy.  In 1995 he met a local entrepreneur who shared his ambition. They formed a partnership which enabled the creation of a state-of-the-art home for this dream tequila. Destiladora San Nicolas became that home and Espolòn became that tequila.  The award-winning tequilas of Espolòn stand as testament to Cirilo’s pioneering spirit, commitment to his art and promise to never give up on his dreams.  When it came time to name his beloved tequila, Master Distiller Cirilo looked to another important part of Mexican culture for inspiration. Named for the spur of the rooster, a powerful symbol of national pride, Espolòn is a fitting tribute to the true storied culture of Mexico.  They call the rooster Ramón.  He’s not afraid to stir things up. And he can be counted on anytime you need a little spur to get things going.

JUST ARRIVED:  Inner Sanctum by Patosi Brewing Company.  Brandy Barrel Aged Belgian Quad.  ABV 10.5%.   Historically brewed by the pious monks of Belgium, this decadent brew features unique raisin and plum character resulting from select dark caramel malts and ten months of aging in oak brandy barrels. Gently warming with a lingering toffee finish. Best enjoyed with a smug attitude and cashmere turtleneck.  Rated Exceptional by Beer Advocate.  Stop in at Regent Liquor and pick some up today.

From Patosi’s website:  “Originally founded in 1852 along the Great River Road and just a stone’s throw from the Mississippi River, the Potosi Brewing Company brewed more than a century’s worth of delicious craft beer before finally bowing to shifting market pressures and emptying its bright tanks for good in 1972.

Re-founded on its original site in 2008, the Potosi Brewing Company has brought craft brewing back to Main Street Potosi, Wisconsin. Today our fine people lovingly craft only the highest quality beer — in small batches and without compromise — forging a renewed tradition of excellence that’s all our own”.
